The visitors double their advantage with the aid of a deflection. Arnold lines up the free-kick from the edge of the box and he fires a low effort straight at the wall.
However, it clips the heel of Havertz and wrong foots Hradecky to find bottom-right corner. Wolfsburg take complete control of the game.
Hradecky keeps Wolfsburg at bay once again. Steffen plays a one-two with Brekalo to break into the box. He hits his strike first time, but the Leverkusen keeper spreads himself to make a vital block.
His second delivery pinballs around the box and Arnold has to scramble it behind for a third corner. They've responded to the call of their manager.
Leverkusen are trying to up the ante. There have been decent chances at both ends of the pitch, but the visitors are still in control.
Wirtz opens up the Wolfsburg defence with an incisive pass towards Diaby. He surges into the box, but Mbabu denies him with an inch-perfect tackle to quell the opening.
Hradecky makes a vital save to deny Brekalo. Joao Victor teases a low cross into the box from the left flank. Brekalo takes the ball in stride away from Dragovic and strikes at goal on his left foot, only to see his effort saved by Hradecky.
Bayer Leverkusen boasted a fine record before entering the tonight's contest, but they've not been at their best. Kai Havertz had their best opening just before Pongracic found the net, but he could only head his attempt over the bar.
It has not been easy for home teams in front of empty stadiums and it will take an effort for Leverkusen to rally tonight. Wolfsburg take a lead into the break against Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena courtesy of Marin Pongracic's header.
The visitors deserve their lead as they've been the brighter of the two sides. Joao Victor had two good opportunities, including one that was saved by Lukas Hradecky.
However, Wolfsburg kept presssing and Max Arnold put a fine cross into the box from a free-kick that was converted by Pongracic. Oliver Glasner will be very pleased with his team's half-time advantage.
Wolfsburg take the lead as Pongracic heads home from close range. Arnold swings a dangerous cross in from the right flank with his left foot.
The Wolfsburg defender rises highest in the area and glances his header away from Hradecky into the left corner of the net. A deserved goal for the visitors.
Out of nothing Bellarabi produces a brilliant cross into the box for Havertz to threaten. The striker glances a header towards goal, but his effort travels inches over the bar.
So close for Leverkusen and Havertz. However, the forward gets caught in two minds and produces neither a quality strike or cross back towards Weghorst, allowing the home side to clear.
A let off for the home side. A needless one by the Wolfsburg forward. A cynical challenge from the midfielder. Bosz will be a tad concerned by his side's performance at the moment.
Roussillon works his way out two challenges before offloading to Steffen on the edge of the box.
The midfielder goes for a blast from 20 yards, but Bender puts his body on the line to make the block. It has been a lively contest thus far.
Glasner will be pleased with their response. Wolfsburg cut open the home side once again. Brekalo feeds a cross to the back post for Joao Victor, who goes for a first-time strike on his left foot.
Hradecky spreads himself and produces the block with his body to send the ball behind. The midfielder looks for Joao Victor, but Diaby gets back to make a vital challenge to break up the attack.
A simple ball over the top from Arnold releases Joao Victor in the left inside channel. He tries to roll it towards Weghorst in the middle.
Tapsoba makes a goal-saving challenge to deny the visitors, clearing ahead of Weghorst and behind for a corner.
However, the Wolfsburg left-back is up for the challenge and stops the forward in his tracks. Brooks fails to clear the danger, but fortunately for Wolfsburg, Roussillon is at the back post to steer it away from Bellarabi.
The winger goes for the quick-fire shot that is deflected behind by Pongracic. Odds taken on May 25 from bet NJ Sportsbook.
Given that Wolfsburg is not exactly the freest scorer in the Bundesliga, it is worth backing Bayer to emerge victorious without conceding on Tuesday.
Bosz has had his fair share of criticism in Germany, most of which dates back to his disastrous spell at the helm of Borussia Dortmund. But the former Ajax head coach has got Leverkusen moving in the right direction, as demonstrated by recent wins against Werder Bremen and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Havertz has deservedly received much of the attention of late, but credit is also due to several of his team-mates: Karim Bellarabi made a successful return to the starting XI against Gladbach; Moussa Diaby was a constant threat on the left flank, and year-old defender Edmond Tapsoba plays with a maturity beyond his tender years.
That stands them in good stead for the run-in. Wolfsburg lost to Dortmund on Saturday. Wolfsburg may be sixth in the standings but they have scored fewer goals than Hertha Berlin in 10th, Koln in 11th, Augsburg in 12th, and Eintracht Frankfurt in 14th.
Wolfsburg will have to demonstrate a significant improvement in forward areas to triumph at the BayArena this midweek.
Pleasingly for Bosz, the defense is starting to look more resolute than it has done on other occasions this term. When Bayer gets things right, the result is an irresistible brand of attacking soccer.
But when things go wrong, the team is often far too open. Not many top-four contenders around Europe have conceded two goals or more in eight matches this campaign.
The defense has been more secure regardless of whether Bosz has opted for three or four men at the back, with the experienced Sven Bender having done a fine job of marshaling those around him.
Die Werkself defends from the front, pressing opponents high up the pitch and looking to keep the action away from their own goal.
Such a strategy should bear fruit again on Tuesday. Take the Leverkusen win without conceding here — Wolfsburg can be blunt in attack and Bayer has been improving in defense.
